Sofie is a woman-led business. It was founded in late 2020 by Anna Kiefer, a software engineer and technology advocate.

The name Sofie is a play on the word software and the founder's middle name, Sophia. They say there are only two hard things in computer science: cache invalidation, off-by-one errors, and naming things.
